Brody Bett is a 12 year old singer, SAG-actor, voice over artist and multi-instrumentalist. Brody has a feeling for music.
He just has to hear the song and can almost instantly play that song.
One day when he was 7 years old, his mom had to leave the home for an hour and when she returned he was playing “The Greatest Show” from the movie “The Greatest Showman” on the piano. He hadn’t played the song before and he had only seen the movie a few times. His mom was in disbelief. Nowadays, this has become a normal thing, but back then it was very special.
But that’s not when his parents discovered his musicality. They discovered that much earlier. As a toddler he would be walking around the house with a microphone and piano, singing into them. At 4 years old he hit a glass with a knife and told his mom it was a G. His mom asked him if he was sure and his response was “Yes!”. She asked him to hit the glass again and compared it to the piano. And it indeed was a G.
His love for music doesn’t come from a stranger. His mom used to sing in a band, he came along to their gigs, picked out the songs he liked and then at home he did them rather easily. So at the age of 5 he joined a local youth choir. He clearly loved that as he lighted up and belted the notes much more than the other kids. The other kids were looking at him for guidance throughout their performances.
To try something a bit different he tried out for a community theater show and landed the role of The Grand Duke in Cinderella as his first role. He did show after show, until he got a tip to send in a video for a Broadway National tour. Even though they weren’t planning on doing anything else than they had been doing so far. They did the video anyway. Why not? After the audition tape, he was requested to send in a tape of him singing, then a tape with a couple of scenes (also known as sides). But that still wasn’t the end. He was asked to come to New York for the final callback. He landed the role of Michael in Finding Neverland and toured for 10 months, visiting 102 cities in 43 states.
After that he wanted to do more like that, so he sought and agent and they signed them on the spot upon meeting him. His agent got him another audition for a Broadway National Tour. He had several auditions and callbacks for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The tour was well on his way, with Brody playing Charlie, when suddenly COVID-19 appeared and the world more or less stopped.
If it weren’t for his agent, Brody would be sitting at home entertaining his parents and that’s it. His agent however asked him if he would like to do remote voice overs from home. Brody wanted it, so his parents bought the equipment and created a voice over studio at home. You can hear him if you watch The Hunters (which also features Al Pacino), Magical School Bus, Bubble Guppies (Gil), one of my favourite Disney+ movies: Better Nate Than Ever and several other series/movies.
Brody has also been cast in a movie. He plays the lead in the movie Tethered.
He both likes acting and singing, but if he had to choose it would be music. Music is in his heart. And so much, he doesn’t want to use other peoples tracks. All music you hear when you see Brody perform is Brody himself. If you watch his video you will discover that and that they are rather raw as if he chooses this all he’s going to do on the fly. That’s because most of the time he records without much planning. he records off the cuff.
Not everything Brody records is raw and unproduced. Within a few months he will release his first original song, which he co-wrote. It will be on all major streaming platforms when it’s released.
What does Brody do when he’s not acting or making music? Of course, there’s school, eating, drinking, sleeping, but then there still is time left in the day. He spends that time, riding his bike, playing with friends, playing basketball, swimming and golf. And if he’s not doing one of those things, he’ll probably is building something with LEGO.
There is one instrument Brody loves to play, not many have that instrument at home, but Brody has 3 full size ones. An instrument that reminds me of the 2015 German movie Henry: a pipe organ.
Brody has travelled around the US to play some big organs, including the Wannamaker in Pennsylvania, the Midmer-Losh in Atlantic City, the Salt Lake City Tabernacle and the University of Notre Dame along with about 30 more around the country.
One of the biggest honours for any singer is to get to sing the National Anthem. And Brody has had that honour.
